A young girl wearing a red velvet hood is sent by her mother to deliver food (usually bread, butter, or wine) to her sick grandmother who lives in the forest.

On her way, she meets a Big Bad Wolf. Naively, she tells him exactly where she is going.

This is the version most common today, featuring the happy ending with the hunter.
