Born 1988, his work ethic and dedication have taken him from Medford, Oregon to Europe, to China, and finally to the Dota 2 International, the tournament with the largest prize pool in the history of video games.
The novel La Ciudad Bajo La Luna by Nerea Riesco is a captivating journey through the historical landscape of early twentieth-century Spain, specifically centered on the transformative year of 1929 in Seville. Set against the vibrant and ambitious backdrop of the Ibero-American Exposition, the narrative weaves together a complex tapestry of mystery, romance, and social commentary. Riesco masterfully utilizes the city of Seville not merely as a setting, but as a living character that oscillates between the dazzling promise of modernity and the dark shadows of its ancient secrets. Through its intricate plot and evocative prose, the novel explores the tension between time, memory, and the human desire for legacy.
Ultimately, La Ciudad Bajo La Luna is more than a historical thriller; it is an exploration of the enduring power of secrets and the weight of the past. Nerea Riesco successfully balances the rigorous detail of historical fiction with the pacing of a suspense novel, creating a work that resonates with emotional depth. By the conclusion, the resolution of the mystery serves as a commentary on justice and the realization that while time cannot be stopped, the choices made within it define a person's true character. The novel stands as a testament to the idea that beneath the surface of any great historical achievement lie the countless personal stories of those who built it, loved within it, and died in its shadows. The title itself, La Ciudad Bajo La Luna, serves as a poignant metaphor for the duality that permeates the novel. While the sunlit Seville of the Exposition represents progress, architecture, and international prestige, the moonlit city reveals a different reality defined by forbidden loves, clandestine meetings, and unresolved crimes. This duality reflects the internal conflicts of the protagonists, who must reconcile their public identities with their private truths. Riesco’s descriptive language brings the sensory experience of Seville to life, from the scent of orange blossoms to the architectural grandeur of the Plaza de España, immersing the reader in a world where beauty often masks deep-seated corruption and pain.
