The story follows (played by Justin Hartley), a successful but lonely novelist who returns to his childhood home in Connecticut during Christmas to settle the estate of his estranged, recently deceased mother. While clearing out her house—discovering she had become a hoarder—he meets Rachel Campbell (Barrett Doss), a woman searching for her birth mother who once worked as a nanny for Jake's family.
